The Scottish Play

4th September 2018

The neverending array of talent in Llanelli never ceases to amaze me. Last weekend’s production of Macbeth by Llanelli’s Boom Productions was a real treat.

Set during in the 1980’s era of Thatcher and the miners’ strike, this production took a contemporary twist on the Shakespearean classic. The play was an immersive experience with the cast often moving around the whole theatre, not confined to just the stage, and even interacting with the audience. A fantastic performance was put on by the witches who really set the tone well.

Although a minor role in the play, I particularily enjoyed the performance of the Porter who raised a few laughs and captivated the audience. I’d also like to commend the performance of the two children in the cast who performed amazingly well.

As mayor, I was delighted to receive the invitation to attend as I’ve enjoyed many of Boom Productions’ previous titles. I look forward to seeing what they have in store next.
