Town Centre Investment

20th June 2017

Last night at Llanelli Town Council’s Planning Committee, the council was consulted on proposals to demolish and replace the former Raffles Night Club. Unlike a full planning application, this is a consultation process undertaken before the application is submitted to help the applicant inform their proposals. I spoke up in favour of the principle of development. Not only does Llanelli need more Town Centre accommodation, but it’ll be a great win for the town to see this eyesore removed. Raffles has been a blight on the townscape for quite some time in a prominent location.

That being said, I suggested that the developer reconsider the finished appearance of the building. The largely brick finish would be another monolithic slab in the town centre that we could do without.

Some of the proposed finishes to the building include cladding. In light of the tragic events in London, I have requested that the Town Council request a comment from Carmarthenshire County Council regarding clad finished buildings in Llanelli.

Below is the folder containing the project information prepared by the applicant.
